For the love of books

Written by Maeve Colombo, co-founder at Soulful Soundwaves

We have to confess, we LOVE a good book – especially a text that can teach and better us from the inside out. You know the book that just seems to flick a switch to ON on the internal circuit board? The type of book that you read and say “I need to own a copy of this” or a book that you’re forever ear-marking the pages as you journey through the profound teachings from cover to cover.

We’ve read many a book over the years. Some of which gently lead you down the path to teach you that next important life lesson with impeccable timing and others that felt like the biggest cuddle and gentle whisper to remind you you’re not alone in how you feel and see the world.

If one cannot enjoy reading a book over and over again, there is no use in reading it at all.
— Oscar Wilde

Books have become a huge part of our life. Without the time spent watching TV (we haven’t had a TV for many years now), we’ve realised we often spend our evenings reading or listening to audiobooks. It’s something that feeds our soul and fits right into our simple little lifestyle.

Evening reading

In recent months, we’ve been asked more frequently for the books we would recommend reading. Although it does come down to personal preference, we do love to share the texts that helped and continue to help us on our journey in the hope they too will plant a seed of wonder for all those that read them.

So we’ve decided to create this living and breathing blog with our list of top go-to books. Some of the books below you may revisit time and time again. Others, you may only read once. However, each and every one added another little piece of the jigsaw for us. They opened our mind, fed our soul and helped us mend and straighten a part of us that may have been a little wonky or hurting. We too hope they will help you just as they have helped us.
